Public Works

Operations and Maintenance

The Operations and Maintenance team coordinates the delivery of key infrastructure services in the community. It is responsible for managing:

  • Community Buildings
  • Roads and Bridges
  • Winter Road Development

These services are funded through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC). The program also oversees the Band Garage and McKoop’s Garage, ensuring smooth operations and equipment readiness across departments.

Band Garage

The Band Garage operates and maintains the community's heavy machinery used for construction, maintenance, and roadwork. It supports other KI departments with equipment needs for projects such as road grading, hauling, and infrastructure repairs.

McKoop's Garage

McKoop’s Garage offers vehicle repair services for community members. Skilled technicians service and repair a range of personal and recreational vehicles, including:

  • Passenger vehicles
  • Snowmobiles
  • All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)

This garage ensures residents can access reliable vehicle maintenance locally.

Water Works

Managed separately from Operations and Maintenance, the Water Works program is responsible for the community’s water and sewage systems. Its services include:

  • Operating and maintaining the Water Treatment Plant and Sewage Lagoon
  • Managing and repairing underground water and sewer lines
  • Delivering clean water to homes not connected to the main water lines
  • Collecting sewage from homes not connected to the sewer system

The Water Works program ensures the community has safe drinking water and effective waste management year-round.
