The Chief and Council consists of one (1) Chief, one (1) Deputy Chief, one (1) Head Councillor, and five (5) Councillors. Each member of Chief and Council are selected during an election that occurs every two (2) years. The Chief and council provides overall leadership and governance for KI, making decisions to protect the rights, culture, and wellbeing of the community and to guide all departments in serving the Nation’s interests.
Handles the daily operations of KI’s government, ensuring efficient management, coordination, and support services across all departments and programs for the community.
Delivers programs to support families, individuals, and vulnerable members of the community, including child and family services, crisis support, and initiatives to promote wellness and social development.
Oversees the community’s education system from early childhood to adult learning, ensuring culturally relevant, high-quality educational opportunities for all KI members.
Provides fire protection, emergency response, and public safety initiatives to keep community members safe during emergencies and unforeseen events.
Offers health care programs and services to promote physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, working with health professionals and community health workers to meet KI’s health needs.
Responsible for the community’s infrastructure, including housing, roads, water systems, and maintenance services to ensure safe and reliable facilities and living conditions in KI.
Protects and manages KI’s traditional lands and environment, overseeing stewardship, sustainable development, and monitoring of land use to preserve natural resources and cultural values.
Supports business development, community enterprises, and employment initiatives to build a sustainable economy and create opportunities for KI members.
Conducts research and analysis to inform planning, policy development, and programs aimed at improving social and economic conditions for the KI community.
